Engineering Faith is the new web-based game from Altering Time. Faith is in closed Beta testing, and things are coming along well. If you want to participate, request an invite. You can also discuss it in the Faith Forum. Basic PremiseThe premise of Engineering Faith is to create your own religion. You read right - dictate every facet of your followers' lives, or let them live in complete freedom. Build places of worship, collect holy artifacts, and convert the populace to your ideals. You can live in peace and unity with other faiths, or bring the wrath of your followers on their heads. What's the schedule?Status updates will be made regularly, particularly on this page - the Engineering Faith weblog. There hasn't been a final decision about whether or not things will still be invite-based once Faith leaves Beta (i.e. the way Google's GMail did things). Beta has been going well, and will likely wrap up by the end of 2007. Are you mocking religion?Of course not. We're not mocking religion any more than SimCity is mocking cities or Tony Hawk Pro Skater mocks skating. Like them, we've created a game around a serious subject, and doing so brings a deeper understanding of that subject, even if the mood of the game is light. How much is it like Asylum? The gameplay is somewhat similar, but more advanced. There's a huge number of lessons learned from creating Asylum that have affected how Faith was designed. Faith supports more players, has more viable strategies, and allows more player interaction. Many programming and design decisions have been made that will allow a more complex but easier to write and maintain game. Also, endgame/victory has been be worked to take some emphasis off being #1 at all costs and onto doing well and other metrics. The game won't simply have a single winner and a hundred losers. Latest Faith NewsThere is now a dedicated Altering Time News Blog, which is separate from Allen Pike's general blog. |
